Problem:   Update an existing CAD model to reflect design changes made to the
physical part.
Process:   The process used to fulfill this customer’s needs incorporated the use of
laser digitizing measurement technology. In order to obtain all of the 3-Dimensional information, the
model was digitized from a number of different orientations which were all later associated together
into the same coordinate system.
Solution:   The measured ‘point-cloud data’ was overlaid with the original CAD model to
identify the areas which were modified by the designer. These areas of the existing CAD model were then
updated using the measured data as reference. This technique yields a ‘Class-A’ quality CAD model that
is very accurate with respect to the physical part.
