Problem:   Obtain full definition of a hand-formed, prototype automotive interior trim component. All features must be defined sufficiently for the purpose of component reproduction (including interior mounting features).
Process:   The process used to fulfill this customer’s needs incorporated the use of laser digitizing measurement technology. In order to obtain all of the 3-Dimensional information, the model was digitized from a number of different orientations which were all later associated together into the same coordinate system.
Solution:   The measured ‘point-cloud data’ was then cross-sectioned to use as reference to construct a 3-Dimensional surface model of visually pleasing, Class-A quality. The final surface data can then be exported in IGES form for importation into most any mainstream CAD / CAM software package.
