Problem:   To duplicate an internally damaged aerospace component for the purpose
of part reproduction. Full 3-Dimensional representation needs to be acquired (including hole size and
location).
Process:   The aerospace component was measured using a ‘line’ laser scanning machine.
This allowed for full part surface definition totaling close to 2,500,000 data points. The component was
digitized from a number of different orientations which were all later associated together into the same
coordinate system.
Solution:   The digitized data was used as reference to construct a fully detailed,
accurate, solid model which was then exported as a STEP solid model. The STEP format can be imported into
most mainstream CAD packages.
