Problem:   Devise a method to digitally capture the shapes and smallest amounts of
detail, some measuring only .25mm, and produce a Class-A quality surface model.
Process:   The process used to fulfill these customers’ requirements involved the use
of laser digitizing technology. The laser was able to pick up all of the free-form detail necessary to
comprise a complete 3-dimensional representation of the tooth. The actual tooth only measured in total
10mm.
Solution:   The measured ‘point-cloud data’ was used as reference to generate a
complete surface model of both high quality and accuracy. The final set of data can be exported as either
a solid model and/or surface model.
