Problem:   To inspect the geometry of a ‘blow molded’ fuel tank against it’s original
design intent (CAD). The tank, which measured nearly eight feet long, needed to be fully digitized with
a rapid method of gathering data.
Process:   The process used to fulfill this customer’s needs incorporated the use of
laser digitizing measurement technology. In order to obtain all of the 3-Dimensional information, the
model was digitized from a number of different orientations which were all later associated together into
the same coordinate system.
Solution:   The digitized data was overlaid with the nominal CAD data, resulting in
visual images called ‘Color Map Deviation Charts’. These charts are delivered in .JPG, and .BMP formats
which can be viewed or printed on any typical PC computer system.
