GKS India Expands to New Facility and adds Scanning Capacity with new Laser Design 3D Laser Scanner
MINNEAPOLIS, MN
- GKS Inspection Services, a global provider of dimensional inspection,
3D laser scanning, and terrestrial scanning services for more than 25
years, announced that its laser scanning and CAD modeling service bureau
in Pune, India, GKS Inspection Services India Pvt. LTD, has expanded
into a larger facility because of dramatic growth in demand for laser
scanning services. The 3,000-square foot GKS India office is staffed
with over two dozen engineers, expert metrologists, and support staff
personnel. The new location allows GKS to better serve all Indian
customers including the Pune area’s automotive industry.
GKS India is one of
the largest such operations in India and the only one with the high
accuracy scanning capabilities of their newly added Laser Design
Surveyor DS-3040 3D laser scanning system. “GKS India is an integral
part of our strategy for becoming the global leader in the 3D laser
scanning services industry,” said Armando Alonso, GKS Vice President.
“Our India operation has been so successful that we have expanded both
in square footage and number of engineers to provide expedient service
to the fast growing Indian manufacturing sector.”
The ultra-precise Laser Design Surveyor
DS-3040 system provides engineers more capacity and versatility with its
next-generation scanning technology, dramatically reducing scan time by
collecting data faster than conventional non-contact measuring
technologies. More accurate, faster, and easier to use than ever before,
the system features full CMM capability as an option. Using its patented
laser line technology, the Surveyor DS-3040 scans parts from all
orientations, and then easily rotates the data back into a common
coordinate system. Operators can quickly and simply scan freeform
surfaces and parts of all sizes, especially those with complex geometry
to a high level of accuracy, often to within .001 inches. GKS India
services all types of Indian customers with high accuracy scanning, and
they also provide CAD modeling and reverse engineering services for GKS’
worldwide business.
In addition to the
DS-3040, GKS India also owns a Faro Platinum eight-foot 7-axis arm with
multiple interchangeable Laser Design scanners for portable onsite
scanning. The DS-3040 also features multiple interchangeable Laser
Design scanners to enable GKS India to scan parts of all sizes and types
at their new facility. GKS India engineers are fluent in an array of
data-editing software packages including Geomagic Studio and Qualify,
Imageware, Rapidform, Pro-E, Catia, Polyworks, I-deas, UG, Solidworks,
CAM2, as well as the native Survey Scan Control used on Laser Design
Surveyor systems.
With their laser
scanning expertise, the engineers create surface models from the 3D scan
data (or “point clouds”), in a process known as reverse engineering. GKS
India’s reverse engineering capabilities include creation of Class A
surfaces and parametric models for all major CAD software programs. GKS
India also uses inspection software to create a color error deviation
map that clearly delineates any variations between the as-built part and
the design intent.
Many Indian
companies would like to take advantage of the improved accuracy and
speed provided by laser scanning but need to scan only a relatively
small number of parts. Such companies have difficulty justifying the
cost of acquiring a laser scanner and training operators in its use. GKS
India provides outsourced laser scanning services, onsite and in-house,
on a project basis quickly and at a very reasonable cost.
