GKS Inspection Services Renews Highest Level of A2LA Accreditation for
Mechanical Testing and Calibration
 DETROIT, MI - GKS Inspection Services, a global provider of dimensional
inspection, 3D laser scanning and terrestrial scanning services for over
25 years, has once again renewed the accreditation for its Plymouth,
Michigan facility through the American Association for Laboratory
Accreditation (A2LA). “We are happy to report that we passed this
assessment with a rating of zero deficiencies,” said Steve DeRemer,
General Manager of the GKS Michigan regional office. “While such a high
score is not unheard of, it is a seldom-achieved accomplishment.”
GKS has been accredited since 1991, and was one of the first
laboratories in Michigan to earn accreditation in mechanical testing.
Currently, the company holds accreditation in the fields of Mechanical
Testing (L0449.01), which means GKS generates reports about the
dimensional evaluation of parts and fixtures, and in Calibration
(0229.02), which means GKS certifies whether items ranging from a set of
calipers to part-holding fixtures are conforming to the design
specifications for that item and reading correctly. Laboratory
accreditation is based on internationally accepted criteria for
competence (ISO/IEC 17025:2005).
The American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) is a
nonprofit, non-governmental, public service, membership society. Its
mission is to provide comprehensive services in laboratory accreditation
and laboratory-related training.
 Every two years GKS must complete a thorough reassessment process with
the Association in order to maintain its status. To pass the
inspection, an assessor methodically audited GKS’ entire inspection
process and quality system onsite for three days. GKS passed the
assessment with the highest rating of zero deficiencies.
DeRemer continued, “Since we are audited regularly every two years, we
use the process as an opportunity to perform and improve all of GKS
Inspection Services’ available procedures. In fact, the
re-accreditation process functions as ‘continuous quality improvement’
for us. We examine our strengths and weaknesses and strive to upgrade
all our services to a higher level. We look at the exercise not only as
a compliance requirement, but also as a demonstration of our first-rate
core competencies.”
